ANKURA - BÆREKRAFTIG MOTEWorking with natural and organic fibers, plus eco-friendly packaging.

From the high Andes of Peru comes Alpaca, a camelid with wool softer and more valuable than cashmere. The extensive farming lands alongside the Pacific Coast of Peru bring Ankura Pima Cotton and organic cotton, a globally recognized fiber for its superior quality and comfort.
*The route of premium natural fiber.

ANKURA - BÆREKRAFTIG MOTEEssential long-lasting garments and accessories with high quality standards.

The Ankura team works diligently to achieve the best results with every collection. Inspiration comes from diverse sources, such as the most important runway shows and its street-style to beautiful Andean Landscapes, the wilderness of the Amazonian Forest and culture from their country, Peru.

ANKURA - BÆREKRAFTIG MOTEOrganic Peruvian Cotton

The Organic Cotton we use in all our collections is cultivated in fields free of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and defoliants, unlike regular cotton production. It is handpicked, reducing the environmental impact and improving the quality of the product. Our organic cotton is undyed, meaning all the shades we offer come directly from the seed. We’re looking into opening up our color scheme, researching for organic dyes and a sustainable dyeing process. Ankura’s organic cotton fabrics and knitwear have the GOTS and USDA certified.

If you want to know more about how Ankura source the cotton they use in their collections and how it’s better than regular cotton, you can read the ;  «Why wear Organic Clothing?»  post on their blog.

ANKURA - BÆREKRAFTIG MOTEPREMIUM ALPACA WOOL

All Ankura’s alpaca knitwear is sourced from Peruvian Alpacas. The Alpaca wool’s sustainable quality comes from its rarity. Alpaca wool is rare to find (being only available in very few countries around the world) and its processing is often regulated to ensure the safety of the alpacas, the land they live in and the farmers who look after them. More so, alpacas are sheared only once a year giving them plenty of time to grow back their hair in time for the winter season. Given the fact that alpaca’s hair loses quality after each shearing process, they are only sheared during a specific amount of time which tends to be less than a third of an alpaca’s complete lifetime.
Ankura, as a Peruvian fashion brand, works with Peruvian Alpaca wool that is sourced from within the country’s top line knit providers who ensure that the alpaca wool Ankura use is responsibly sourced and processed.
The Alpaca wool eventually becomes the threads knitted to produce your favorite Ankura pieces.
Unlike wool, alpaca fiber doesn’t contain lanolin which reduces pesticide residue exposure and avoids allergic reactions. Adding up the fact that Alpaca fiber is softer than most wools and its hypoallergenic properties, more and more fashion industry brands and publications are welcoming Alpaca fiber as the new cashmere.

To learn more about why alpaca is considered sustainable against other types of wool (cashmere included) you can read the post from Ankura’s blog about why Alpaca Knitwear is sustainable, here.
